I Have An Idea

 I have an idea.

After seeing so many healthcare workers speaking out on news programs about the horribly difficult COVID-19 conditions they are working with, I have an idea.  When this pandemic started, these healthcare heroes were being celebrated every night with cheers and noise-making around the country.  Now they are now struggling, for the most part, without any visible signs of support from us, the public.  It's actually worse than that. They are actually being attacked verbally and sometimes physically by people who tell them that the coronavirus is only a hoax and the healthcare folks are lying about all of it.  All while 255,000 Americans have died from this disease and many more are becoming very seriously ill.

Nurses across the country report that some of their patients argue and deny the existence of COVID-19 disease--even as they are about to be intubated because they cannot breathe.  Medical workers are being yelled at, harassed and cyberstalked by crazy Americans who still believe this is all a political hoax.  Doctors, nurses, aides, hospital custodians, administrators, and first responders are all getting really, really exhausted--both from the horribly difficult conditions at work AND the lack of support from you and me--the general public.

SO LET'S SHOW THEM OUR SUPPORT!

This coming Wednesday, November 25th at 5pm, I invite you to join me outside the Cortez Hospital for a candlelight vigil to pray for, honor and thank all the amazing medical caregivers who are giving everything they've got to care for people in this coronavirus crisis.  We'll meet on the East side of the hospital building near the main entrance.  To participate you MUST WEAR A MASK and PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING.  Bring your own candle if possible--I'll have some extras if needed.  We'll spread out and pray together, maybe sing together, and then surround the hospital with candlelight and love.  I'm hoping we have enough people to completely encircle the building.

I'll be contacting friends from other Cortez churches to invite their congregations to participate.  Please reach out to your friends as well.  It doesn't matter which church or faith a person comes from.  If they're willing to offer support for our medical workers (and abide by mask & distance rules) they are welcome.

I hope I'll see you on Wednesday at 5pm.  On the night before Thanksgiving we can all offer heartfelt thanks to those who care for us in our times of deepest need.  In the meantime, please keep our medical heroes in your prayers so that they can receive the strength, support and hope they need.

Peace and all good,

Pastor Jean
