DAY TWO:  The goal posts keep moving
Each day we receive new information and new guidance from the Center for Disease Control and other government sources.  Our goal remains the same:  Help meet the physical and spiritual needs of our congregation and our Cortez community.  Yesterday the Hope's Kitchen volunteers made sandwiches, packed sack lunches and handed out 53 meals.  We expect that number to increase as this crisis situation moves on and word spreads through our community that help is available.  If you know of someone in need, or someone with children at home that needs extra food assistance, please send them our way Mon-Wed-Fri 12 -1pm.  If you would like to have lunch delivered to you on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, please let Pastor Jean know and we will make arrangements for that to happen.

Lamentations 3:22-24 reads:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
    God's mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in the Lord.”

Morning by morning new mercies I see.  All I have needed thy hand hath provided.  Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

The words of scripture and the lyrics of a beloved hymn both remind us that God's blessings are present in each and every moment.  As you weary of staying at home and "social distancing" from other people, take a few moments to notice the outdoor world.  Take a walk, if possible, or just stand outside the door of your home and look for those early signs of the changing seasons.  Spring is offering us hope in the form of blades of green grass beginning to show, in birds returning from their winter getaways, and in crocus and other early bulbs flowering proudly.
The photo below was taken outside St Barnabas Episcopal Church during a visit to coordinate the work of Hope's and Grace's kitchens.  God's mercies never come to an end.  They are new every morning--sometimes in the form of unexpected beauty in the midst of changing times.

Peace and all good,
Pastor Jean
